If you’re looking for somewhere to stash your bags while exploring Seoul, the subway has you covered. HappyBox lockers are installed at every station on Seoul Metro lines 1–8 — no need to drag your luggage around all day.
What is HappyBox?#
HappyBox is a smart IoT-based locker service run by Seoul Metro. You’ll find it at all 277 stations on lines 1–8, and it works for both storing luggage and receiving packages. Lockers come in three sizes: S, M, and L.
How to Use It#
Storing Your Stuff#
Option 1 — Quick Store (via phone)
- At the locker keypad, enter your
phone number + * - Put your items in and close the locker
- You’ll get a text with your password, locker number, and payment info
- Pay via the link in the text
Option 2 — Standard Store (via touchscreen)
- Tap “Store” on the screen
- Select a locker
- Set a password (you’ll need this to retrieve your items)
- Pay by card or Payco
- Done — your stuff is stored
Getting Your Stuff Back#
- Quick Retrieve (if you already paid): Enter your password at the locker and it opens
- Standard Retrieve (if you haven’t paid yet): Tap “Retrieve” → select your locker → pay → open

What You Can’t Store#
A few things are off-limits:
- Cash, valuables (gold, jewelry, items worth ₩100,000+)
- Weapons, knives, drugs, explosives, hazardous materials
- Food (anything perishable will be disposed of if found)
- Animals or remains
- Items over 50cm or heavier than 30kg
Good to Know#
- Maximum storage is 5 days — contact the helpline if you need longer
- Don’t force oversized items in; you’re responsible for any damage
- Your phone number is automatically deleted when you’re done
